Why photography is important

Photos have a way of capturing life itself. Photography can help us remember things that we would have otherwise, long forgotten. A photo is a gift that creates a bridge to remember the most important times in life.

My hope is that the personal connection made through my photos will resonate into images that bring happiness to you and your family for many years to come.

The feelings that I have photography is all the motivation that I need to stay inspired to document your wedding, portrait, newborn, or family session.

Photography in Miami - Engagement Portrait on South Beach

Which are your favorite photos that you've taken?

The above photo explains what I love so much about photography. Photography has the ability to capture the energy that draws people together. As I quickly loaded a roll of medium format film I took this photo while they were lost in a moment of playfulness.

The young couple to the right booked their date almost 14 months in advance. The groom had been asked to relocate to Chicago, where to their engagement portraits, while they planned their wedding for Fort Lauderdale. I took this photo after their New Years day wedding at The Courtyard Villa and Stranahan House. I stood at the opposite end of the hallway this spontaneous moment.

Photography in Miami - Lifestyle Portrait of Naomi

What inspires me?

My wife, Naomi, is what inspires me the most in so many ways. She is my best friend and the fuel that allows me to do my best work.

Inspiring photographers, in particular Rodney Smith and Robert Frank. Their photography amazes me while at the same time challenges me to improve my craft.

I love to travel and experience the culture of other people. Getting out of my own element not only refines my creativity but it more times than not turns into a profound journey.

Where did I learn to become a photographer?

Before turning pro I was a life long enthusiast completely engrossed in documentary photography. I apprenticed for several years with Vietnam war photojournalist Anthony Johnson. In that time I learned to hone my craft and how to maintain a honest business. My education continues as I remain completely in love with film but have fully embraced digital photography when that medium works best.
